There’s a lot happening on 76 Avenue in 2025, with three major City projects planned that will bring significant changes to our area. We know these projects will impact how we all move through and out of the neighborhood, and we understand the challenges they may create. As your community league, we’re here to keep you informed and advocate for our residents. By staying informed, we hope to help everyone plan ahead and navigate these changes more smoothly. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Mill Creek Bridge B206 & Thorogood Erosion Control Project
Starting January 6, 2025, westbound 76 Avenue (89 Street to 95 Street) will be closed until February 28, 2025 for bridge and erosion control work in the ravine.
Digital message boards are already in place, and trail detour signs will be installed on January 6. Attached are the Traffic Accommodation Plan and Pedestrian Detour Map showing alternate routes for walking and cycling.
Note this project is unrelated to the 76 Avenue Renewal Program or the Mill Creek Ravine Trestle Bridge Replacement.
Mill Creek Ravine Trestle Bridge Replacement
The Mill Creek Ravine Trestle Bridge Replacement is a large-scale project to replace the aging wooden trestle bridge located in Mill Creek Ravine. The current structure has reached the end of its lifespan, and the new bridge aims to improve safety, accommodate multi-use pathways, and better connect active transportation routes in the area.
This work will require a full closure of 76 Avenue between 89 Street and 95 Street, expected to begin later in 2025 and last through late 2026.
We understand that this will have a major impact on traffic and access in the area, and we’ll provide updates as more details, including timelines, become available. For further information, visit the City of Edmonton’s project page.
76 Avenue Renewal Program
The 76 Avenue Renewal Program is a long-term initiative aimed at redesigning and upgrading 76 Avenue to better serve our community. This project focuses on improving infrastructure and creating a safer, more accessible space for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles alike.
While the details of the renewal are still being finalized, potential improvements could include upgraded sidewalks, enhanced lighting, traffic calming measures, and changes to support active transportation. The project will also align with City policies on sustainability and urban space efficiency, as well as feedback from residents and businesses.
This work is in the early stages of planning, but it is being coordinated with the Trestle Bridge Replacement project to minimize overlapping disruptions. A summary of public feedback gathered in 2024 is available on the 76 Avenue Renewal webpage.
