If you want to learn more about Men’s Shed, please consider attending the Ritchie Men’s Shed program. They meet every Saturday morning from 10 to noon at the Ritchie hall.
The Men’s Shed movement began 30 years ago in Australia, where ‘shed’ means ‘gathering place’. It has grown and evolved over the decades and there are now 3,000 Sheds worldwide. Each Shed is different, but what we have in common is that guys get together for connection and to contribute to our communities with whatever skills we have. We’ll look at why the movement started, why men like participating in the range of Sheds in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and worldwide. Some have 150 members and run 7 days/week! Our Ritchie Shed has had almost a dozen men participate. We so far focused on turning the old Skate Shed into a workshops, fixing the community hall and fixing toys for the Edmonton Foundation of Community Leagues. Now we’re thinking about the ways we can get engaged more in our community.
