  • Ritchie Community League 7727 98 Street Northwest Edmonton, AB, T6E 5C9 (map)

Beyond the
72hr Emergency Kit

Learn how to identify skills, build relationships, and tap into creativity that helps you respond in an emergency, so that when a crisis hits you are equipped to navigate it, even when you don't have an emergency kit on hand!

THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU IF:

  • Want to learn how to BUILD RELATIONSHIPS with community members in order to prepare a more collective and inclusive emergency plan.

  • You want to IMPLEMENT SKILLS to hold yourself through the hard times, and action even during overwhelm.

  • You want to know WHAT YOU CAN OFFER in an emergency, because you haven't seen examples of neurodiverse or people with disabilities helping in an emergency.

  • You get anxious when you think that you might be caught in an emergency  without your emergency kit.

AND YOU DON'T JUST WANT TO SURVIVE A DISASTER, you want to take collective action to address the policies that do nothing to prevent them, and build a world where the you, and the environment, can thrive.

Participants will leave with:

  • A DIY 72hr Emergency Kit List that can be STARTED in less than 5 minutes for FREE!

  • An introductory understanding of trauma responses, how they show up in a crisis, and exercises that help manage them.

  • An introductory understanding of power for creating accessibility, for being inclusive, and for working collectively.

  • A list of their specific skill sets and how to apply them to emergency preparedness and response.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Daniela Guerrero-Rodriguez (she/they) comes to us (virtually) all the way from BC, and is “that aunty who always has a random fact for every conversation topic, a closet full of bits and bobs for any occasion, and is always nerding out on some new topic they just found out about..”

SOME OF HER EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Director of Education at Groundswell Alternative Business School

  • Frontline mental health care worker practicing cultural humility

  • Emergency preparedness assistant for youth residential programs

  • Master of Education in Arts for Social Change

  • Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Studies

  • Certificate in Community Capacity Building

  • Art of Hosting Training

They value relationships over projects, which looks like making care central to her emergency preparedness and community building. We are very excited to welcome Daniela (viirtually) to Ritchie!
