RCL raised more than $6,000 in support of our two-year project to paint and maintain two inclusive rainbow crosswalks at Four Corners, the intersection of 76 Avenue and 96 Street.
A big shout-out to our partner, Vision Zero Street Labs, for helping us out with this project! Street Labs is a city initiative dedicated to increasing the safety and liveability of Edmonton’s streets through community activation.
Normally a crew of community members does the painting, however since the our intersection is so busy, we need to pay for traffic safety and the painting crew. Street Labs is covering the cost of the paint. We have raised enough funds to cover the cost of the initial painting as well as a refresh next year!
Plans to partner with Street Labs to paint more crosswalks at intersections in Ritchie are already in the works! We’ll need all hands on deck when it’s time to paint those!
The city crew will be painting the crosswalks at Four Corners during the evening hours on Friday, June 25, just in time for the last week of Pride Month! Be prepared to be redirected if you’re travelling east- or westbound that night.
On Saturday morning, get your first glimpse of our beautiful new crosswalks while having your favourite treats or buying something amazing at one of our wonderful local shops, many of which donated to our project!
We want to thank Street Labs, the City of Edmonton, and each and every person and business that stepped up to help with this goal. We could not have done this without you! Special thanks to Kristy Lundstrom, who tirelessly organised this project on behalf of Ritchie Community League.
Happy Pride Ritchie!
