Ritchie’s trying something a little different with a new speaker series: A Ritch-er History of Edmonton.
Our first guest, Bashir Mohamed, will address the history of systemic discrimination in Alberta, including the history of racial segregation, major civil rights episodes and the height of the Ku Klux Klan's influence in the province.
Come learn about an aspect of Alberta's rich civil rights history and tradition, and contemporary manifestations of these struggles.
Mohamed has written and worked extensively on racism and civil rights issues in Edmonton, Alberta, and Canada, and published pieces on these topics for The Nation, Globe and Mail, Huffington Post, Canadaland, among others.
This event is free for Ritchie Community League members.
Non-members are asked to pay what they can (RCL recommends a ticket price of $10). Tickets will be available at the door. Cash is preferred, but credit card purchases can also be processed.
This is the first in what we hope to be a series of “talks” by notable Edmontonians on a range of issues.
